100_5541 Life can be funny around our house.

Last night, Kyle and I were painting the living room. Dexter the dog decided to make the drop cloth his bed. He was all cozy and then I realized he was sitting in a big blob of yellow paint. His little paws were yellow.  I thought that was funny so I went to Mima’s apt and knocked on the door.  I walked in and said “Dexter decided to lie on the drop cloth and now he has yellow paws”….my mom has bad hearing and she said “well, why was Kyle on the floor” and I said “no, not Kyle, Dexter” and she said “oh, I thought you said “Kyle has yellow balls”!!

Meanwhile, I went back to painting and Mima walked in the kitchen and was talking to Dexter…she said “Let me see your family jewels” and then she said “I don’t see anything on his balls”….LOL!!!!! I said “not BALLS, his PAWS”…. How funny is that????

Schrage Update

April 3, 2008

Hi, I have to write an update to Emma’s tooth story. It finally came out. Last night, Emma lost one of her two front teeth.  We didn’t get to use the tooth box but the tooth fairy visited anyway.  Now, she needs to lose the other tooth so she can be totally front toothless.

Also, our supernanny episode is going to be on April 23rd.  I’m not allowed to blog about it but so many folks have asked me when it is aring, I thought I would just post it somewhere on here.

 Have a great night everyone!

Stuffed friends

March 28, 2008

Emma spent the night with her friend Kayla last night. Kayla loves to have friends over but she has a big delimma at bedtime. Kayla doesn’t like to move any stuffed animals off of her bed to make room for Emma to sleep.  To her, they are her real friends.  So, last night we just sent Emma with her sleeping bag.

I remember having stuffed friends when I was a kid. Since my sister is 18 years older than me, I was pretty much an only child.  I had about 5 stuffed animals that slept with me everynight.

I never wanted anything to be lonely so I put them in my bed like they needed me as much as I needed them.

I tied my clothes together in the closet so it looked like they were all holding hands.  My mother said I tied her clothes together too.

I was never really alone. God was there with me.  He knew my heart and he kept me company. Just like he will anyone feeling lonely today.

Are you a girly girl or a tomboy??

March 20, 2008

There is a contoversy in the first grade.  They are trying to decide who is a “girly girl” and who is a “tomboy”.  Emma is a tomboy to a teeeee. They divided each other into groups. Some first graders still want to be girly girls.

There is an even bigger controversy in 5th grade.  They are all trying to decide the same thing.  Well, the 5th graders are not  quite as loving and kind to each other.  They decided to appoint everyone either a girly girl or a tomboy. No one in 5th grade wants to be a girly girl.

Tonight, Ellie is devastated because since she wore pink today, she was called a “girly girl”.  I told her the girls in her class haven’t seen her after she has been digging up worms and playing in the sand. There was no consoling her. Her feelings are hurt.

Now, my job as a parent, is to tell them they can be a girly girl one day and a tomboy the next and whatever they want the next.  I tried this and it helped Emma (who wasn’t upset anyway), but not Ellie.  My joke about shaving her head didn’t help either.

I finally told her how tough 5th grade was for me. My worst year in school.  This helped her.  This made her feel better.

Thanks God, for giving me wisdom in areas I am lacking and letting me know how to comfort a 10 year old.

Oprah, corset,waist,small,tiny

March 14, 2008

I just have to write one more time about this. I promise I will stop after this time.  It is so funny to me how many people are still being led to my blog because of the corset lady from Oprah’s show.

That has been weeks now. She is one popular chick.  The searches are so funny-Oprah corset, oprah tiniest waist woman, corset lady, smallest waist ever on Oprah. It goes on and on and on……….

Okay, as much as it amuses me, I won’t talk about this again. ha ha.

Oh, and Kadi Prescott, you are second. It’s Kadi Prescott, Kadi supernanny, Supernanny Prescott family, Daniel Prescott and on and on and on. Maybe Kadi could wear a corset. ha ha. Just kidding Kadi, you definitly don’t need a corset. ;)

 Have a great night!!!

The Velveteen rabbit

March 8, 2008

I’ve had this blog for over a year now.  One of my first blog post was on the Velveteen Rabbit story.  It is my favorite children’s story.  Now I know it is probably because ,as a kid, I was constantly searching for people who were “real”.

Here is a little bit of the story again. I love the symbolism. Maybe I should post it once a year. :)

The velveteen rabbit asked the skin horse if it hurts to be real and the skin horse replied, “Sometimes, but when you are real, you don’t mind to much”.  “Once you are real, you can’t be ugly except to people who don’t understand”. “Once you are real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always”.

I love it!!! Forgive me for quoting it from memory. I’m sure I left a few words out.

What do you think “being real” means? What does it feel like to you?

 Happy afternoon!!

The Prescott Family on Supernanny

March 6, 2008

I loved seeing Kadi Prescott on supernanny last night.  She was so real and honest. I love that.

I am so glad Kadi and Daniel were able to restore the relationship with Kadi’s dad.  Forgiveness is so essential for us to move forward in life.  It was great to see a family willing to work on this HUGE issue. Now, he will be able to be a grandad to all of those kids!

I was in tears much of the show.

Thank you Kadi for being REAL on television.  I know you helped millions of families!!

Oh, and you are all so cute!!!

A Little Bit Sad but Only for a Moment

March 2, 2008

Okay, so I am not a person who lives in the past. I am actually happy my kids are getting more self sufficient everyday.

Today, I was searching for something in a drawer, which is like searching through the past 4 years around here.  I found an old fake drivers license that had a picture of Ellie when she was 4. There she was with that ” I am too stubborn to have my picture taken” look on her face, with her little arms crossed.  I actually felt a little sad, for a minute.  Then, I remembered little stubborn Ellie and how she ran the other direction when I would pick her up from preschool, how she was absolutlely furious when I brought Emma home from the hospital, and lots of other Ellie-isms. Now, she is sweet, protective of her sisters and actually a help to me.

I realize they are only small for a season and it flies by.  I am enjoying the season we are in right now.  I thank God for memories and for the blessings of the present.

Maybe in a few months I will have to change this blog title to “kidsoup” as Cara keeps telling me she is not a baby!!

By the way-my friend and fellow blogger Kadi Prescott and Her family will be featured on Supernanny this week. Check out her blog, Seven Seeds, it is linked in my blog roll on the right hand side of this blog. She is inspiring and hilarious.

uninspiredness

February 27, 2008

I am having a very uninspired week….which is okay I know, I just don’t like it a lot.  It will pass.

Here is our day so far, snow day so the kids are out of school.  They have been outside and inside and outside and inside.

The police just left our house because Ellie decided to see what would happen if she dialed 911 and hung up.  Now she knows. He was a very nice policeman and he scared her to death so there is no more punishment needed.

Never a dull moment here. Maybe that is it. I haven’t had time to be inspired. ;)

Anyone, have any funny stories for today???? I love to laugh!!
