100_5541 Life can be funny around our house.

Last night, Kyle and I were painting the living room. Dexter the dog decided to make the drop cloth his bed. He was all cozy and then I realized he was sitting in a big blob of yellow paint. His little paws were yellow.  I thought that was funny so I went to Mima’s apt and knocked on the door.  I walked in and said “Dexter decided to lie on the drop cloth and now he has yellow paws”….my mom has bad hearing and she said “well, why was Kyle on the floor” and I said “no, not Kyle, Dexter” and she said “oh, I thought you said “Kyle has yellow balls”!!

Meanwhile, I went back to painting and Mima walked in the kitchen and was talking to Dexter…she said “Let me see your family jewels” and then she said “I don’t see anything on his balls”….LOL!!!!! I said “not BALLS, his PAWS”…. How funny is that????

Angel the dog

February 6, 2008

We have a very old 3 legged border collie mix named Angel. She has arthritis and can’t get around well.  Everyday, we grab a peice of chicken or ham and coax her out the door. Then, we have to help her down the front porch stairs so she can go potty.

Angel has trained our much younger sheltie to take care of her. He scratches her ears, tells me when she wants to go out, and tells me when she wants food or water. Now, just because Dexter is her slave, doesn’t mean she wants him to have any food. She sits in front of her bowl all day, making sure he doesn’t try to get her food.  The fact that Dexter has his own bowl does not seem to comfort Angel.

So today, Angel was sitting in front of her bowl as always. Cara got the vacume cleaner sweeper and was cleaning.  Cara vacumed up Angel’s tail in the sweeper. My poor mother who witnessed the whole thing, panicked because Angel’s hair was wrapped around the brush in the cleaner.  The tip of Angel’s tail was actually almost wrapped with her hair.  It took my mother about 15 minutes to unwrap the tail and then she still had to cut about 4 inches of hair off of Angel to get her free.

The whole time Angel was still eating!! All the commotion with her tail and she just kept eating.  She never moved from her bowl.

I usually have some kind of positive thing to add to my blog posts but uuuummm I really just thought this was funny!! It is always positive to have a good laugh.

 Have a great night!

cara and dexter

January 10, 2008

100_3924.jpg Cara and our sheltie are both 4 years old.  They are bestfriends. Dexter follows her all over the house. He lets her pick him up and he even lets her dress him up.

They were on the sofa together today. All I could see was a tail coming out from under Cara’s blanket. He was asleep.

I had to get a picture.  I love DOG LOVE!!

weekend in the mountains

October 15, 2007

God provided me with the opportunity to go to the mountains with 7 (right 7?) of my girlfriends.  I haven’t left my kids since they were born except to go to 2 womens conferences.

We had a blast!! We talked, played games, just hung out and ate great food.  I haven’t laughed that much in a long time. My voice was gone when I got home.

I now see the importance of getting away from everything once in a while. It helps me remember who I am.  Sometimes we moms can forget who we are away from the kids.

Thanks girls for the fun!!! Thanks to Donna for arranging everything!!

Rest in peace to a sweet miniature schnauzer Nike Richey-age 14

Dexter

September 3, 2007

We have a sheltie dog. His name is Dexter.  He is the most obedient thing in our house. We didn’t even have formal training for him. He is just very good natured.  There are times when Dexter gets scared. He is scared of Kyle since they are both men.  Kyle will call him and he always obeys but his lip (do dogs have lips) goes up a little and he makes a little face. Kind of like an Elvis Presley snarl.  He is always obedient but his emotions  show.

I have been catching myself reacting to God lately like Dexter reacts to Kyle.  I do what god wants but I am snarling all the way because I don’t always like it.  God provides a blessing for obedience but the blessing would be greater if I realize the journey is also a blessing!!! I’m learning!  I am slow just like Dex.

 Have a wonderful week!!

the Cat That Predicts Death

July 29, 2007

I know this story has been all over the media lately.  They have made fun of it. Jay Leno has told jokes about it. I find it so sweet and so much an act of God.

In case you haven’t heard this story, the cat goes into the rooms of nursing home patients that are near death and curls up beside them until the pass.  No one can figure out how the cat knows which patients are going to die.  I think it is simply another way God uses his animals to comfort his people.  Maybe the touch of a soft cat helps them in their last moments.

God will provide for our every need! Praises for that!

The little dog whose heart is too big

July 22, 2007

My dad and my step mother have had their dog about 13 years.  Nike is a miniature schnauzer.  She has been attached to my dad’s side for 13 years.  She goes to work with him and goes on vacation with him.

He loves her and she loves him. She has his personality.  I have often joked that Nike is the favorite child.

Nike is near the end of her journey.  She has a heart defect. It is causing her heart to double its size.  The best we can do now is pray for her comfort to the God who made all things.

Maybe it is because she stored up so much love that her heart is big.  Maybe she caused all of our hearts to get bigger too!

God, I know you made every inch of Nike. Please provide comfort to her and please take away all her pain. Amen.

Cara’s prayer

July 16, 2007

This was too amusing to leave off of the blog.

I sat down on the couch tonight and I said ” My head hurts for some reason”. Cara was sitting in her Daddy’s lap and she quickly bowed her head and started praying.  Here is her funny prayer.

Lord, please help Mama’s head not to hurt

Please help Daddy to take a shower tomorrow

Please help the TV to keep working

Please help my daddy not to get fat from eating italian ice

and please help my floaties in the pool

 In Jesus Name Amen

I love the faith of children!!

Wag more Bark less

July 1, 2007

We were out drinving the other night and I saw this car magnet.

It said “wag more bark less”

 How profound!

We need to be more like dogs.

Happy for the good things and living in the moment.

Maybe God made dogs as an example for us!

Let’s try to Wag More and Bark Less this week!!!
