Today was 80’s day at the elementary school. Emma wore her old 70’s outfit (it’s all the same to them) and I assembled an outfit for Cara. Cara wasn’t pleased at first. I said “I was in school in the 80’s” and her eyes got really big and she said “you were ALIVE in the 80’s”…….

80’s Day
September 15, 2009Middle Schoolers
September 14, 2009
At the elementary school we wait in the car LINE….so everything is orderly and all the kids straight to their parents car..
At the middle school, we park and sit there. Soon, the kids start walking very sluggishly out the door. They are in groups and seem to enjoy much hugging on the way to their poor parents, who have most likely already been in one car line for an hour or more…hmmmm…okay, sorry, back to topic.
The strange thing about this is the fact that even though there is about 500 cars in the parking lot, they do not see them. I don’t mean they try to be cool and ignore them, I mean, they actually do not know the cars are there. If it is not their car, they do not see it and do not make any attempt to avoid it. Several times I have looked to make sure no one was behind me only to be shocked as a kid walks right in my path as I back out. It scares me to death, the tween never even notices there was danger.
Today, I was texting my friends about this very phenomenon and telling Ellie about it, when I say ‘look, this little 8th grader with the cell phone is oblivious to traffic”, then, she walks right out in front of me….she NEVER looks….she is completely unaware I almost ran over her…this even shocked Ellie…
I texted my friend Kathy about it and she said “middle schoolers just expect everyone else to see them”….perfect quote…so correct.
I promise I will try very hard everyday to avoid the dazed kiddos….;)
so….
August 22, 2009We are still having a few issues with middle school. Well, with kids.
Last night Ellie had her YUC farewell at church. It is where they move from the “youth under construction” to the real “youth”… it is a fun night with lots of memories shared.
When we first got there, one of Ellie’s friends handed her a note from a girl at school that was really hateful to Ellie last May in the 6th grade. I have blocked all contact from this child so she had to resort to going thru another YUC…(this child does not attend the same church as we do)….
The letter was nasty…it ruined Ellie’s night for about an hour. The cool thing was Ellie’s close friends cheered her up. Not because they had heard about the letter but because they are all so sweet and they love her. Sometimes, having a talent (singing for Ellie, other things for other kids, too) can make kids target someone. Ellie doesn’t care because her passion for singing is ENORMOUS! The kids last night embrace that and encourage Ellie to sing. The meaning of true friendship prevailed and the night was a success.
That leaves me with the mean note. I am taking it to the principal on Monday to have the matter dealt with because the letter was written on school property and it is harrassment. I am also praying for this child. God loves her too, no matter what. Ellie is praying for her too. Life can be hard and lessons have to be learned. Good
d will come from everything eventually…but it doesn’t make it any easier to have someone be mean to your child. LOL….
Pageants
August 8, 2009The pageant show on TLC scares me. I mean, I am afraid those little girls are going to think life is all about looks…Ellie singing in Talent shows is hard enough but at least she is relying on a talent. I guess, I should say to each his own but it gives me the creeps…to watch the mom’s pushing the kids to shake their butt’s and wear fake hair and more make up than I have ever had on in my whole life is unnerving.
I know there are exceptions…so no angry comments please. Some of these kids are just so conceited…yikes…let’s be humble….and learn it is what inside that really counts.

Life can be funny around our house.
Last night, Kyle and I were painting the living room. Dexter the dog decided to make the drop cloth his bed. He was all cozy and then I realized he was sitting in a big blob of yellow paint. His little paws were yellow. I thought that was funny so I went to Mima’s apt and knocked on the door. I walked in and said “Dexter decided to lie on the drop cloth and now he has yellow paws”….my mom has bad hearing and she said “well, why was Kyle on the floor” and I said “no, not Kyle, Dexter” and she said “oh, I thought you said “Kyle has yellow balls”!!
Meanwhile, I went back to painting and Mima walked in the kitchen and was talking to Dexter…she said “Let me see your family jewels” and then she said “I don’t see anything on his balls”….LOL!!!!! I said “not BALLS, his PAWS”…. How funny is that????

December 29, 2007about life………….
One day my brown eyed child said to me, “when I get big and you get little”. Wait, I said “you will get big but I won’t get little”.
The years flew by like wind turning the pages of a book, until one day she stood beside me and with diming eyes and brittle bones I thought, brown eyed child you were right. You are big and I am little.
Work and Preschool
November 15, 2007Cara has been having mommy withdrawal at preschool. She loves preschool but she hates to for me to leave her.
Our family friend Janee was over the other day. Janee aked Cara if she liked preschool. Cara looked at her seriously and said “do you like work”? Janee said “well, sometimes work makes me stressed”. Cara replied “sometimes pre school is stressful”.
I guess we all go through times that are stressful. I try to pray through it and learn from it until it passes.
Cara ran happily in preschool today! Praises for that!!
